TritonAI Roadmap
How We Got Here
TritonGPT began as an internal innovation effort led by UC San Diego IT Services and funded through the Office of the Chancellor. The initiative grew out of a simple idea: build a secure, campus-controlled AI tool that protects university data, operates inside our own infrastructure, and directly supports the day-to-day work of staff.
To meet those expectations, UC San Diego partnered with the San Diego Supercomputer Center to host TritonGPT on university-owned systems. This approach ensures:
- Data stays on campus
- Access is secured through campus Single Sign-On
- No data is shared with commercial AI providers
- Model updates and improvements are fully governed by UC San Diego
What started as a pilot has quickly grown into one of UC San Diego’s most widely adopted digital tools, supported by training, documentation, and an expanding catalog of AI Assistants designed for campus-specific tasks.
Where We Are Going
TritonGPT continues to evolve as a core productivity tool for the university. Future work focuses on deeper capabilities, stronger integrations, and broader AI literacy across campus.
Priority Areas
- New task-focused AI Assistants for HR, communications, financial workflows, and operational support
- Secure integration with additional structured data sources
- Expanded editing and productivity tools for drafting, summaries, rewrites, and content organization
- More training options, including workshops, role-based learning, and ongoing support
- Continuous model and infrastructure improvements at SDSC
The goal is to make TritonGPT a reliable, secure, and intuitive tool that supports the work of staff across UC San Diego.
